Drawing from inter- and transdisciplinary environmental and sustainability science, Hauke’s research in environmental sociology integrates social and political theory, political sociology, and social movement studies. His work addresses evolving lines of socio-ecological class conflict considering escalating climate catastrophe and the normalization of authoritarianism. Hauke demonstrates particular expertise in climate obstruction and ethno-nationalism, just transition and degrowth, as well as participatory governance and prefigurative politics. His research reveals the complex ways nature-society relations and social change both shape and are influenced by democratic institutions and diverse political organizations – from far-right parties and environmental movements to trade unions and environmental social science.
